Our family began a dog saga back in May when we purchased a Cavachon puppy from a pet store. Yes, I’m sure you know what’s coming next… After a visit to the vet, we found out that our adorable new puppy was very sick, and we ended up returning her to the pet store.
After a long hunt for a reputable breeder, we chose a puppy, and then had to wait for him to be ready to come home. Then, the breeder let us know that the puppy we picked out was too timid of a personality for a house of all boys. So we picked another puppy, and waited for three additional weeks since he was younger. But we finally got our new puppy last night! He is another Cavachon. What exactly is a Cavachon, you ask? He is a mix between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Bichon Frise. Basically, it’s a spaniel-looking dog that is good for allergy sufferers.
So now we are dog owners! And with that comes housebreaking, and mess, and items that get chewed up, and running down the street to chase after him when the boys accidentally let him out the front door, and vet bills, and… Right now he is howling in his crate because he doesn’t want to go to bed!
But we think he’ll be worth it. God was so good when He gave us animals to enrich our lives. Animals help children learn how to care for someone and how to be compassionate. Our two older boys have already had so much fun taking care of him. And part of the experience for them will be learning how to keep taking care of him when the novelty wears off. It will be good to have a dog. Right?
He had a big day playing, and surely he can’t whine in there forever, can he???
It will get better! Thankfully, God knew what He was doing when he made them so darn cute.
I can’t wait to hear what y’all end up naming him.
