Easy-to-Make Accessories for Cowboys and Indians

Our family really loves  Schleich figures.  Schleich is a German company that makes realistic plastic animals and people.  They are a little on the expensive side, but we have found them to be totally worth it.  They hold up well, and the boys have spent hours making zoos, jungles, etc.  When we found these Indian and Cowboy figures on sale for 50% off at a local toy store last summer, we bought all of them.

Here are some things that we like to make for our figures!

Use a paper grocery bag to make a teepee.  We use one side of a bag.  Curve it to make the teepee shape, and then tape it in place.

Cut off the bottom of the teepee to make it sit flat.  Cut a door, and decorate the outside of the teepee.  We decided to have real sticks coming out of the top of our teepee this time.  I put a rubber band around them before sticking them through the hole at the top of the teepee.

The cowboys were enjoying a peaceful evening on the cattle trail when they suddenly realized that they were not alone!  A band of Indians was hiding, ready to attack!  The cowboys quickly brandished their guns! (Since that’s the only position their little plastic arms are in anyway!)  Thankfully, a shoot-out was averted by a peaceful trade with the Indians.  It turned out that all they wanted were pocketknives.

We used real rocks and sticks for the cowboys’ campfire.  We also made a bed roll out of felt and attached it to a horse with a rubber band.  In the past, we have also used cardboard to make “rocks” for the figures to hide behind.

By the way, the cowboy and Davy Crockett figures are a different brand – Papo.

Aidan also had fun building this stone wall for the guys to hide behind.  I am constantly amazed at how fun rocks and sticks can be!
