We are doing Apologia science for my second grader this year, and we absolutely LOVE it! With these books, you can teach multiple children of different ages at one time, and the curriculum includes many activities that are totally do-able without a lot of prep time. We are doing Zoology 1, and the book is full of facts and interesting pictures while giving glory to God as Creator.
Aidan needed to complete a nature scavenger hunt as part of this week’s lesson, so we decided to go to the park today while we had grandparents over to help!
I decided to make Gresham a quick list of things to look for too so that he would have something to do as well:
The boys had so much fun setting out on the trail with their notebooks and pencils. Well, actually, Gresham’s list was on a clip board, which he kept calling his “keyboard.” A true child of his technology generation… When he was 2, he used to call mail trucks “e-mail trucks.”
Okay, back on topic now…
We found a cardinal, a ladybug, some very interesting beetles, a salamander (might have been a gecko), and many anthills, rocks, and sticks. This was a fun family outing, and we will definitely be doing this again! It would be fun to do another one during a different season and catch some of the things we were unable to see this time – like a bird’s egg, a butterfly, etc.
