Here’s a fun art project that only requires two supplies – colorful window clings made out of craft glue and food coloring!

Craft Glue Window Clings

The boys really enjoyed this art process.  I used some little disposable condiment cups to mix up different colors of glue.  I love colorful projects!  This one would be fun to cheer up a rainy afternoon.

To make your window clings, you will need some plastic page protectors or transparency sheets.  (Do they even make transparency sheets anymore?  I can’t remember the last time I saw an overhead projector…)  We actually used vinyl left over from our duct tape zipper pouch project as we still have lots left!  Parchment paper won’t work – we tried that, and it absorbed the glue.  Something plastic is better.

Use spoons to drizzle the glue onto your work surface.  Toothpicks work well for making small details, but you do want to make sure that the glue is pretty thick.  Otherwise it will shrink as it dries or break when you peel it off.

Another option is to mix up the colored glue right in the bottle and squeeze out your designs.  I only had one bottle of glue and we wanted several colors, so we didn’t go that route.

Let your glue creations dry overnight.  Then peel and stick to a window!

Colors that are next to each other will blend slightly as they dry.

Note:  Once you stick your window clings to the window, you can peel them off again and move them around.  But if you leave them off the window for any length of time, the back will harden and then they won’t stick anymore.  The ones that the boys left on the window are still going strong after more than a week, but we had trouble with the younger boys (ages 2 and 5) handling some of them too much.  They were too young for this project anyway – kids who are old enough to make the clings can probably understand to leave them alone.

This is awesome! I am trying this and your glow-in-the-dark slime recipe for a tween program at my library this week. I'll make sure to point them to this website for more fun craft ideas!

I am having buyers remorse. How come I didn't buy that glue when it was marked down to .25 !!
