How to build a LEGO® R2-D2!

Well, the boys have been into all things Star Wars this week, and Aidan built this LEGO® R2-D2. He looked at several options with a Google image search and then created this design. It should be fairly easy to put together if you have enough white and gray bricks!

R2-D2’s head rotates all the way around.

Use a hinge, a 4 x 4 blue plate (flat brick) and a 2 x 2 round black plate for R2-D2’s face.

Attach the hinge like this:

Then add the black circle.

R2-D2’s body is a basic column. The bottom is made up of gray plates, as shown. There are brackets on the front to hold the two gray round bricks.

These are the pieces that Aidan used to make the head turn. It’s cool because it swivels all the way around when you turn it, but it doesn’t spin freely.

Leave an opening in the body for the turn table. This is a 4 x 4 turn table with locking base.

The arms are attached to a 1 x 2 Technic brick on each side of the body.

The arms are built like this (inside):

Aidan didn’t put wheels on R2-D2, but it would be easy to do.

Aidan is working on a C3PO, but we’re running low on the right types of yellow bricks, and I told him that I’m not ordering any more bricks since we just spent money on Christmas gifts. So we’ll see. 🙂

I just showed this to my 6 and 8 year old boys and they love it! It's given them a ton of ideas on how they can make an Eve to go with their latest creation - Wall E! Thank You xx

My son really wants to build this, but I don't see instructions anywhere. Are there instructions like your C3P0 somewhere? Thank you very much!!

We didn't do step-by-step instructions for the R2-D2 since he is simpler to build (and the step-by-step instructions are pretty time consuming to write!). The body is just layers of white and blue bricks. I will try to add some more detail photos. The next few days are very busy, but I'll see what we can do!
