How to Make a Duct Tape Star Wars Mandalorian Jetpack

Make a Star Wars Mandalorian Jetpack out of Cardboard and Duct Tape!

One thing that I did not anticipate with having so many boys is how much they would want to play dress up! My 4 year old is constantly dressing up like a fire fighter, police officer, or cowboy, and the older boys are constantly dressing up in Star Wars gear and various homemade weapons. Aidan (age 12!) has been wanting to figure out a way to create a Boba Fett helmet and jetpack. I bought some Pringles chips one day, which the kids promptly consumed, and we thought that the empty containers would work well for the jetpack. Several days went by, and I still had not had time to help him make a jetpack, so finally I told Aidan that he was going to need to just make it himself. He did, and it turned out really well! There was even a little duct tape left on the roll when he was done. 🙂

It’s not an exact Star Wars replica, but it’s a fun craft that older kids can make on their own!

Aidan made the jetpack for Gresham (age 9, average size) to wear.

Here is what he used to make the jetpack:

Cardboard
Three empty Pringles cans
A plastic cup
3 – shot glass sized plastic cups
Duct tape
Scissors (if you wipe the blades of the scissors with a baby wipe, it makes it much easier to cut through duct tape!)

Aidan started with a piece of cardboard for the base on the jetpack. Then he added three Pringles cans. The can in the middle has the bottom of a plastic cup attached to the top.

Here is the basic shape of the jetpack. Aidan added a shot glass sized plastic cup to the bottom of the jetpack on each side. (You can see the tiny plastic cups in the photo above.)
