Here’s a fun play idea while plastic Easter eggs are in high supply! Set up a Dinosaur Egg Play Dough Factory. Kids will enjoy making eggs with little dinos inside of them.

Dinosaur Egg Play Dough Factory

I set up our dinosaur egg factory with jumbo plastic eggs from Hobby Lobby (these are slightly larger than the regular ones), Safari Toob dinosaurs, play dough, and some rocks.

I used our favorite homemade play dough recipe:

1 cup flour

1/2 cup salt

1 tablespoon oil

1 tablespoon cream of tartar

1 cup water

To make the play dough, stir the dry ingredients together. Then stir in the water and oil. Pour the mixture into a pan and heat over medium heat until it turns into play dough. Stir frequently. I use a non-stick skillet, and it only takes a few minutes to form into a ball. Once it is cool, add several drops of food coloring and knead it into the dough.

To make the dinosaur eggs, put a little play dough into the bottom of an egg. Then add the dinosaur and then more play dough.

Put the top on the egg. It’s okay if extra play dough squishes out.

Then open up the plastic egg and carefully take the play dough out. I was worried that the play dough might stick, but our eggs came out easily.

The boys built nests for the dinosaur eggs.

And hatched the eggs…

And they made footprints in the play dough.

And set up all kinds of scenes complete with fighting dinos and lots of sound effects!

What a cool idea! I prepared this for my two year old by pre stuffing the eggs and sitting them in a "Dino nest" for him to discover after his nap. He was super excited to open the eggs and squish the play doh out to find baby dinosaurs!

We just found this idea on Pinterest. My seven-year-old is now looking for his dinosaurs. Thanks for saving our Sunday afternoon!
