Use your bricks to build Star Wars LEGO® ships – on a mini scale!

The boys and I have been busy designing these little Star Wars ships, and I think they are adorable!  We’ve built mini LEGO projects before, and they are so much fun. Sometimes it’s fun to build on a tiny scale. It’s like making little collectible items!

We made instructions for the X-Wing and Boba Fett’s ship, but the rest are fairly simple to figure out from the pictures because all of the bricks used are visible from either the top or the bottom.

We’ve got an X-Wing, Tie Fighter, Boba Fett’s ship, ARC 170 Starship, Mando’s Starfighter, and a Y-Wing. Hopefully these designs will inspire kids to create even more on their own!

This post was updated on May 13, 2022.

Let’s get started building! Encourage kids to substitute with other pieces if they don’t have the exact bricks shown. There’s no one right way to make these!

Tie Fighter

This one is simple, but so cute.

Each wing is made from two 2 x 4 black wedge plates. I attached them with a 2 x 2 plate.

The center of the ship is a black 1 x 1 brick with studs on 4 sides. Attach a 1 x 1 light gray round plate to each side and a 1 x 1 clear round tile in the front. Then use the light gray round plates to attach the wings.

X-Wing

This one is totally my favorite. Well, my other favorite is Boba Fett’s Starship – ha!

Step 1: Start by gathering the bricks shown below. If you don’t have the 1 x 1 rounded white tile, substitute with a regular square tile.

Step 2: Put a 1 x 2 white jumper plate (the plate with one stud on top) on a 2 x 2 light gray plate. Attach a 1 x 3 red plate to a 1 x 3 light gray plate.

Step 3: Line up the light gray and red plates in front of the 2 x 2 light gray plate. Then use the 1 x 3 white plate to attach it. Add the 1 x 1 white rounded tile on the end of the red plate.

Step 4: Add two 1 x 1 translucent black slopes (the little 30 degree ones) to make the cockpit. Find a 1 x 2 – 1 x 2 bracket and attach two 1 x 1 translucent pink round plates. Also find two 1 x 2 white plates with a bar on the side (free ends).

Step 5: Line up the two white plates. Attach the cockpit to one stud on each white plate. Attach the light gray bracket to the other stud on each white plate.

Step 6: Add a 1 x 2 – 1 x 2 light gray INVERTED bracket. Attach two more 1 x 1 translucent pink round plates. Then add a 1 x 2 light gray plate. Find the pieces shown.

Step 7: Place two more 1 x 2 white plates with a bar on the side (free ends) on the ship. Then add a 1 x 2 white jumper plate and a 1 x 2 red jumper plate.

The 1 x 1 blue round plate is supposed to be R2-D2. Omit that step or change it if you want!

Step 8: Then add the wings. Each wing is a 1 x 2 light gray plate with a clip on the end and a light gray bar with a 1 x 1 round plate.

Your X-Wing is complete!

Y-Wing

A Y-Wing on a tiny scale is hard to build! After a few attempts, my 13 year old came up with this awesome design.

Here are some of the more unusual pieces he used. The links will take you to these pieces on Brick Link.

The wings are made from a 1 x 1 light gray cone and a light gray Technic pin connector with a slot.

Then are attached to a dark gray 1 x 1 plate with a light attachment.

Here’s a view of the Y-Wing from the underside.

Mando’s Starfighter

This is Mando’s new ship from the series The Book of Boba Fett.

We used a 1 x 2 clear brick to prop it up for pictures.

It’s a cute little ship!

Boba Fett’s Starship

This is my other favorite! So cute!

Step 1: Grab these pieces for the base of the ship.

Step 2: Use a 2 x 2 dark red plate and a 2 x 4 dark red plate to connect a 2 x 4 dark gray wedge plate, a 2 x 4 dark red plate, and two 2 x 4 dark red wedge plates.

Step 3: Add a 2 x 2 green curved slope and a 1 x 2 green plate. Add two 1 x 2 light gray plates with a socket on the side. These will hold the wings.

Step 4: Add three 1 x 2 green jumper plates. Then add a 1 x 1 dark red slope (30 degree) and a 2 x 2 dark red curved slope.

Step 5: Put a 2 x 2 dark gray round plate and two 1 x 1 translucent light blue round plates on the underside of the ship.

Step 6: Build the cockpit area with light gray plates. Use a 1 x 2 light gray inverted curved slope on the end. You can substitute with whatever bricks you have for this step.

Step 7: Add some wings! We used a 1 x 2 dark gray plate with a ball on the side and a 2 x 2 light gray tile for each wing.

Your ship is complete! Use clear pieces to build a stand, if you want. We used some windshields – ha!

These models are so fun! We're going on a vacation soon, and I'm going to bring a small box of legos for my son to construct these during some down time. Thank you for sharing these!

I am so delighted to find these instructions for Star Wars mini-ships, and I’m sure my young grandson will love these as much as I do. I am especially pleased because I already have so many of these parts in my Lego collection. Thank you so much Sarah!

These ships are great. Boba Fett's ship is much better than the official design. If you go to the LEGO website and search for "Star Wars Advent" on the instructions search page, you will find designs for mini ships, droids, and other cool items.
