Here’s an adorable penguin Christmas ornament to make from a wood slice ornament! We are just loving how these turned out.
My 7 and 10 year olds made these with me. Gresham’s (age 10) is on the bottom left.
Here’s what you need to make one:
- Wood slice ornaments – We got ours at Hobby Lobby in the wood craft aisle.
- Acrylic paint – black, white, and orange
- Orange felt for the feet
- Hot glue
We started by drawing the design with a pencil.
Then we painted the white part first because it’s easier to paint black over the white than the other way around. It doesn’t matter if the white edges are perfect because you can fix it with the black.
I think it works the best to draw out the whole thing first, even though you will be painting over the face.
Then paint the black body. I drew the face back on with pencil. Originally, I had drawn a cute open beak, but decided that was too much detail for a paint brush. So I went with a simple beak design instead.
After the paint dries, hot glue the feet to the bottom of the wood slice. So cute!
