I love how you described the order of your painting. I hadn't really thought about how the order would make a difference. We haven't done much with fine art this year. Perhaps we can dab in it a bit next week!

Sometimes the softer soaps, like Ivory, work better for carving, especially if they are just starting to learn to use a knife.

Another fun idea for PVC pipe is a marshmallow gun. I did this with 4th grade cub scouts and they loved it.

I just started using clippers on my son's hair so your little tutorial is perfect for me! I've been doing my husband's hair for the last ten years, but I love my sons hair and didn't want it clipped lol! So for five years I gave him home cuts, and it was great till he made a new friend and wanted his friends hair! I gave in once but honestly hated it. Now it is growing out and he wants me to do it again, but this time I'm going to try it the way you did it, see if I like it better.

The trick I use to get him to sit still and not to break my back is putting a kids chair on our coffee table. We have those little blue plastic Ikea chairs, the chunky looking ones. I put a dvd in, the chair on the coffee table and go to work. All the hair then falls on the coffee table and is easy to clean up, plus I can move his chair where I need it for better angles lol. Oh, and we have tiled floors, so I don't know if I would do that with carpet. But it does save my back, I don't have to bend over a chair.

I'm so pleased to find this post. There is a point in my life that I distinctly remember being out sawing/hammering etc on wood. It really didn't matter how big or small the piece of wood was, but I just enjoyed the heck out of it.

It's so funny because in your head, your building the final piece to a huge house with garage, but in reality its just a piece of wood with saw marks and 40 bent nails sticking out of it lol.

But really, these are things he will never forget. Good job! I'm going to tweet this :)
