Here is something to do with little ones to keep them busy during the holiday week!

I made these Thanksgiving books with Gresham (6) and Owen (3) last week over the course of three days, and I was really happy with how they turned out.  We’ll definitely be saving these as keepsakes!  To make one, all you need is construction paper, crayons or colored pencils, scissors, glue, and a computer with a printer.  For Gresham’s, we also used first grade lined handwriting paper.

For both books, I printed several different Thanksgiving coloring pages from the internet.

Here is Owen’s preschool version:

I chose letters of the alphabet to put on each page.  It would have been cuter to use letters that spelled out “Pilgrim” or “Thanksgiving” or something like that, but I couldn’t think of anything clever!

Here are the pages we did:

P is for Pilgrim

M is for Mayflower

C is for Clearing the land

I is for Indian

T is for turkey

This is Gresham’s 1st grade version:

Gresham copied a sentence onto each page to go with each picture.

Here are the sentences we used (feel free to copy them):

  • The Pilgrims left England in 1620 in search of religious freedom.
  • The Pilgrims sailed across the ocean in the Mayflower.
  • The Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock in November 1620.
  • The first winter was very hard.  Many of the people died from cold, sickness, and hunger.
  • In the spring, friendly Indians taught the Pilgrims how to fish and to grow corn and squash.
  • The Pilgrims had a feast to celebrate their bountiful harvest.

I’m grateful that the Pilgrims were willing to face such hardships to build America!  And I’m also thankful that I don’t live during Colonial times! Ha!

Hi! Thanks for your comment. I'm not providing the printouts - I used printable coloring pages from all over the web. There are a lot of options for Thanksgiving coloring pages out there. For the preschool book, I used a Mayflower ship, a turkey, pilgrims, and an Indian. The first grade book has the same pictures, plus a picture of the Pilgrims arriving at Plymouth Rock. I hope that helps!
