DIY Scrabble Photo Collage

This year, I wanted to do something special for my husband for Valentine’s Day.  We usually have a habit of letting holidays slide by without getting each other anything.  Usually money is tight and we don’t know what to buy anyway!  Well this year, Jordan has been working two jobs, and I wanted to do something special to show that I appreciate him.  I did a month’s worth of Valentines with reasons why I love him, and I wanted something fun to give him on Valentine’s Day as well.  He and I love to play Scrabble in the evenings after the boys are in bed (he always wins!), and I thought maybe I would make something with Scrabble tiles.  I went to Target to get a Scrabble game, but I couldn’t believe that they cost $18!  I discovered that you can buy Scrabble tiles on Amazon, ebay, and Etsy for less, but I had waited until the last minute.

So here’s what I did:

  • Step 1 – set up the Scrabble board and took pictures of cute messages, like this one:

  • Step 2 – Went shopping for a photo collage frame.  After dragging four children around three stores I found the perfect one with five 5×7 openings!
  • Step 3 – I ordered 5×7 prints of the Scrabble shots from Walgreens and made sure they were oriented the right way to match the openings on the frame.  They were ready to pick up within an hour.
  • Step 4 – I finished off the collage with a picture of my husband and I that a friend took for us during the holidays.

I was so happy with how it turned out that I waited up for Jordan to get home from his second job last night to give it to him!  Thankfully, he got home “early” at 11:15 p.m., and he loved it!

This would also make a fantastic wedding or anniversary gift!

What a great idea!! I love this. I made an actually scrabble art for my sport's fanatic son's room. The possibilities are endless with this. Thank you so much for sharing at A Bouquet of Talent this week. So thrilled to have you share with us. :)
