Here’s a simple craft for kids – pipe cleaner animals. Pipe cleaners are such a frugal crafting material, and these animals held my kids’ attention REALLY well. This is a great project for a rainy afternoon!
We are totally in survival mode over here at our house! I am 36 weeks pregnant, and I’m starting to wind down on homeschooling until after we have settled in with our new baby. We’re focusing on math, language, and simple projects that keep everyone busy. The boys have been doing lots of reading, playing in the backyard (now that it’s finally warm enough!), and Legos.
These pipe cleaner animals were the perfect project to keep everyone calm and busy one morning! In fact, my 7 year old just pulled the supplies back out to make some more! 🙂
To make each of these animals, we used pipe cleaners, beads, googly eyes, and a low-temp glue gun.
We started with the chameleon. You can find instructions for how to make the chameleon here.
Aren’t they cute? It’s fun to pose them with their little legs.
After that, the boys and I were just experimenting, so we don’t have any step-by-step instructions. But hopefully these animals will give your kids some inspiration for creating their own creatures!
Gresham wanted dinosaurs. He and I made this Velociraptor.
Then Gresham made a Deinonychus on his own, and Aidan made a long neck dinosaur. (I seriously wouldn’t even know that Deinonychus was a type of dinosaur unless I had kids! I had to have Gresham look up how to spell it for me in his dino book!)
Since it’s spring, I made a caterpillar:
Which inspired Aidan to make a bunny. Isn’t it cute? For the belly, he wrapped a pink pipe cleaner in circles, and then added white around the outside. I’m not sure how he did the head. He made the ears separately and we glued them on.
And then Gresham made a frog. Since I took the pictures, he came back and added a tongue and a fly on the end of the tongue, which is very fun.
Another favorite pipe cleaner craft at our house is pipe cleaner ninjas – if you haven’t seen them you must check them out! A great craft that boys can get into!

Can I simply say what a reduction to seek out somebody who really knows what theyre speaking about on the internet. You definitely know how one can carry an issue to gentle and make it important. More folks need to read this and understand this side of the story. I cant imagine youre no more widespread because you undoubtedly have the gift.
