Here’s a fun and super colorful way to dye Easter eggs! Young kids will be able to make these Tie Dye Easter Eggs with minimal help, and teens will enjoy the process too. I had fun making them as well!

We’ll show you how to make swirls of color with Sharpie markers and rubbing alcohol. It’s simple and impressive.

I love decorating with color in the spring! It makes the season so cheerful.

The downside to this method of dying Easter eggs is that you probably don’t want to eat the eggs because of the Sharpie markers. Since the eggshells are porous, I wouldn’t risk it.

We chose to decorate ours and leave them out for several days (making the eggs unfit for eating anyway) and then throw them out. If wasting eggs bothers you, it would be easy to blow out the eggs before you decorate them.

How to Make Tie Dye Easter Eggs

Step 1: Hard boil your eggs (or blow them out).

Step 2: Color the eggs with Sharpie markers.

Kids can make patterns, stripes, scribbles, or anything they want. It’s fun to experiment with different amounts of colored areas to see how that affects the final results.

The coloring does NOT need to be neat because it’s all going to get swirled around anyway!

Step 3: Drip rubbing alcohol onto the eggs. We used plastic droppers for the alcohol. The alcohol blurs the colors of the Sharpies, creating beautiful swirls!

Don’t squirt large streams of alcohol onto the eggs or most of the coloring will just wash off.

Once the swirls are to your liking, let the eggs dry! That’s it!

They will dry quickly because of the rubbing alcohol. It evaporates very fast.

We enjoyed coloring some eggs with warm colors and others with cool colors. I love the effect! But really kids can do whatever they want and it will look amazing.

Find a basket to display your finished eggs!

Tips:

  • We put paper plates under the eggs to keep Sharpie marker off our table.
  • The rubbing alcohol will remove any Sharpie that does make it onto the counters, and it also helps get Sharpie off of fingers (although not completely).
  • The eggs dry quickly!

We got them from Amazon. I ordered some for a biology lab a couple of years ago, and we have tons left! Here's a pack of 100: http://www.amazon.com/Plastic-Transfer-Pipettes-Gradulated-Pack/dp/B005IQTSE0/ref=as_sl_pc_ss_til?tag=frufunforboy-20&linkCode=w01&linkId=55SUS65MPOW23OIU&creativeASIN=B005IQTSE0
