17 Beginner LEGO Project Ideas with Classic Tubs

Young LEGO® builders will be inspired to create with these 17 beginner LEGO® ideas!

All of the projects in this post were built with one $29.99 set – the LEGO® Classic Creative Building Set (10702). Kids certainly don’t need to own that exact set – they can just use these ideas as a springboard for designing their own creations with the bricks they have. However, I often have people ask me which set to buy to make the projects we posts, so for this post we’re keeping it simple. Buy this box and build all these projects!

I choose this set because it’s a great value with 583 pieces. By comparison, the Medium Creative Brick Box is the same price ($34.99 regular price, usually on sale for $28.99 on Amazon) and has 484 pieces, although I think it has more larger bricks.

All of the Creative boxes have similar pieces, though, and kids can build these projects with whatever bricks and whatever colors you have!

Project #1: Mini Train

Here’s a view from the underside. The wheels are actually gray disks attached to axles. Owen (age 6) designed this one!

Project #2: Mini Car

Gresham used a 2 x 1 plate with an arm to create a spoiler on the back of the car.

Project #3: Owl

Okay, this doesn’t look a ton like an owl. But we were working with limited pieces! You can call it whatever type of bird you like. 🙂

Project #4: Fighter Plane

Here’s how to attach the green bricks on the side:

Project #5: Aliens

Build some fun little space creatures! This set comes with 3 each of two different eye designs.

Project #6: Dog

Aidan designed this cute little dog! The white bricks within the body are actually 1 x 2 grill pieces – those flat bricks with little lines.

Project #7: Lunch Foods! Ham Sandwich, Orange, and Cookie.

Project #8: Toothbrush and Toothpaste

For after you eat that LEGO® Oreo, ha ha!

Project #9: Flip Cars

These little cars can flip over and drive on either side. The shape of the larger one makes it really easy to flip with one finger.

I built the cottages, but Owen designed the little lamp posts. I thought they were adorable!

Idea #13: Sports Car

Gresham built this one using some jointed bricks that move up and down for the wings. Those same pieces can also be used to make the top of a car open, etc.

Idea #15: Another Plane

This one is my design, of course. Someone had to make something that wasn’t a plane!
