Here are some fun birds to build with LEGO® bricks! This is a great building project for beginners. We’ve got designs for a couple of owls, some ducks, a cardinal, and a peacock.

The peacock is probably my favorite! Each of these birds were designed by my 10 year old, with only minor revisions by me. He’s getting good at LEGO® designs!

PEACOCK

Peacocks are totally “in” right now, and here’s a brick version that is simple to build.

We had an 8 x 8 green square plate that we used for the base of the tail. If you don’t have that, then just attach green plates to create the tail shape.

All of the bricks used in this project can be seen in the photo, so I didn’t do full instructions for this one. The base of the body is a 2 x 4 blue plate. Then use a 1 x 2 plate with a handle on the side and two 1 x 2 plates with clips to attach the tail to the body.

The head is attached to a 1 x 2 black plate with one stud on top.

DUCKS

Build male and female mallard ducks. So cute! My son used a 2 x 3 yellow plate with one rounded end for the bill of the male, but we didn’t have a second one so I used a 2 x 3 plate when building the female.

OWLS

Build an adorable little owl!

Step 1: Start with a 2 x 3 brown plate.

Step 2: Add a 2 x 2 inverted slope, a 1 x 2 inverted slope, and a 2 x 3 brick.

Step 3: Add two 1 x 1 bricks, a 1 x 2 slope, and two 1 x 1 slopes (30 degree).

Step 4: Add three rows of tan bricks for the belly of the owl.

Step 5: Add two 2 x 2 slopes and a 1 x 2 brick.

Step 6: Place a 2 x 3 plate on top of the bricks from step 5. Then add a 1 x 2 brick and two 2 x 2 inverted slopes.

Step 7: Build the head and eyes. Add three 1 x 1 bricks with a stud on the side, two 1 x 2 bricks, a 1 x 1 brick, and one more 1 x 2 brick. Attach eyes to two of the 1 x 1 bricks with a stud on the side.

Step 8: Attach the beak between the eyes – a light orange 1 x 1 plate with one claw. Build the top of the head with four 1 x 2 dark brown slopes and a 1 x 2 brown brick. Gather the bricks shown.

Step 9: Attach a 1 x 2 curved slope over the beak, and then add the remaining bricks to the top of the head.

Step 10: Build the sides of the body and the wings as shown.

Step 11: Attach the brown sections to each side of the body.

Step 12: Attach the feet, and add a 1 x 3 brown plate behind the feet to keep the owl balanced.

Step 13: Attach the wings to the sides of the body and the owl is complete!

Gresham used the same design to build a Snowy Owl also.

CARDINAL

Here’s a cardinal to build – again, you can see all the pieces used. The tail is attached to a 1 x 2 plate with clips on the side, which makes it adjustable.

Have fun building!

Your Blog is great! My son loves building with Lego, he loves birds as well. We wondered where you find the eyes? Are they made by Lego?

I love your site. I was wondering if there is anyway to print off the instructions? We had a fire in July and my boys lost most of there toys except some of there LEGOS. I just had to was them. So Money is tight this year for Christmas and I thought I could put a binder together for my youngest boy with some of these wonderful projects. But when I go to print them off all I get is ads.

Crystal, so sorry to hear about the fire! My blog posts are not designed to be printed, but I do have two print books available. I also have an e-book of LEGO Christmas projects to build.
You can see the books here: https://frugalfun4boys.com/lego-books/
