This is our first Christmas to shop with an entirely cash budget, and it has definitely been a success!  Although we got off to a somewhat frustrating start, we have really seen God provide things that our children and family members will enjoy that fit within our budget.

We set out this past Saturday evening to hit several sales.  I knew that chances were good that the whole thing would unravel (hubby and I navigating through 4+ stores with coupons and three small children), but the Lord was gracious and we had good success!

The first stop was Hallmark.  We had a coupon for $5 off a $5 purchase that I printed from a link on Money Saving Mom.  Gresham had been eyeing a stuffed beagle that was very similar to this at another store for $20.  This one was $11.95, so with the coupon I paid $7!  He’s going to be thrilled.  (And hopefully he won’t catch a glimpse of this post over the next three weeks!  I’ll have to be vigilant about not letting them see the blog!)

We also found some good gifts for family members, but I can’t post about that because they’re probably reading this!

Then we went to shop for new underwear because of our puppy’s lovely new habit of chewing them to bits.  Dragging them around the house was bad enough, but now he has ruined several pairs over the past week!  We found a great sale on underwear too, and this purchase did not stretch our budget as much as we had feared.  Sometimes it’s so nice to be reminded that God handles even the little things!  Now we just need to find a sale on a good hamper, because obviously our laundry baskets in the laundry room are not puppy-proof enough!

While re-organizing our closet to better hide the Christmas gifts, Jordan found this brand new pack of scented crayons!  They will be going in Aidan’s stocking.  So in his stocking he is getting:

Crayons:  Free

Rubber bands: $0.79

Tape (2 rolls): $1.99

Glow-in-the-dark stars for his room: $3.49

Lego Toy Story Army Guy set: $2.99 (I thought I had paid $3.99 for this but it rang up on sale!)

Total stocking: $10.02 including tax

I’ll probably throw in some Christmas candy and some flashlight batteries if I can hit a good sale on those.

And now our Christmas shopping is just about done!  I need something for Aidan to open from his brothers on Christmas Eve (we do brother gifts on Christmas Eve as a tradition) and something for my brother, and that should be it!

And no credit card bills to think about in January!
