Spring Builds! How to Make Chicks, Bunnies, and Butterflies with LEGO Bricks

Spring is finally here, and we’ve got some new LEGO® building ideas to go with the new season! Build some adorable bunnies, the cutest chicks, and colorful butterflies. Then find somewhere fun to display them!

I’m trying something new this time and offering both video and pictorial instructions. My son worked really hard to help me film the instructions while keeping his hands from blocking the bricks. We tried to make it as clear as possible! But I’m not going to promise that we’ll always do both for our LEGO® projects. It’s a LOT of work, as you can probably imagine.

Build half an egg to place in front of one of your chicks to give the appearance of hatching. So cute! We have had all these spring projects out on the kitchen counter, and we’ve all had fun arranging them in different ways.

The bunnies are cute and really do not require a lot of bricks.

How to Build Chicks with LEGO® Bricks:

Step 1: Gather the bricks shown below for building a chick. This is everything you’ll need.

Step 2: Attach a 2 x 3 brick, a 2 x 2 slope, and two 1 x 2 bricks to a 4 x 4 yellow plate.

Step 3: Place a 1 x 2 brick on top of the 2 x 2 slope. Then add two more 2 x 2 slope bricks and another 1 x 2 brick.

Step 4: Add a 1 x 2 plate with one stud on top and a 1 x 2 tile. These will hold the head and allow it to turn.

Step 5: Build the face by attaching three 1 x 1 bricks with a stud on the side to a 2 x 3 plate. Add eyes and a 1 x 1 orange slope for the beak.

Step 6: Complete the head by adding a 1 x 3 brick and a 2 x 3 plate on top. Then attach the orange cones to the feet.

Step 7: Attach the feet to the body, and you’re done! Then build another one if you have enough bricks!

How to Build Bunnies with LEGO® Bricks

Step 1: Gather the bricks shown for building a bunny. This is everything you’ll need.

Step 2: Start by attaching a 2 x 2 plate to a 2 x 3 plate.

Step 3: Place two 1 x 2 slopes with a cutout under the end with the 2 x 2 plate. (The link will take you to that part on Brick Link.) Then place a 1 x 4 plate under the other end.

Step 4: Add a 2 x 2 slope, a 1 x 1 brick, and a 2 x 2 inverted slope.

Step 5: Attach a 1 x 3 slope on each side – attach it to the ends of the 1 x 4 plate which are sticking out. Then add a 2 x 2 curved slope to the back. Build the head with a 1 x 2 brick and a 1 x 2 brick with two studs on the side.

Step 6: Add four 1 x 1 bricks with a stud on the side. Attach eyes to two of them. Attach a 1 x 2 plate with one stud on top to the 1 x 2 brick with two studs from the previous step. Add the pink nose.

Step 7: Add a 2 x 2 plate on top of the head – that will help to secure everything. Then attach the ears to the studs on the sides of the head. Stack two 2 x 2 white round plates to make the tail.

Try making another bunny in a different color! Gray and white are great choices.

How to Build Butterflies with LEGO® Bricks

Butterflies are not difficult to build. Construct four wing sections as shown below.

Attach the lower wings by attaching a 2 x 6 black plate to them. Leave two studs of space in between.

Then add a 1 x 2 black plate on each side. Attach two 2 x 2 black bricks between the wing sections.

Then add three 2 x 2 black bricks and a 1 x 2 black brick. Attach the two upper wing sections.

Build the head with a 1 x 2 – 1 x 2 black bracket (inverted) and two 1 x 2 black plates. Attach the eyes to the black bracket. Then add antennas.

So cute! And you can really build these in any colors you like.
