I saw this post on how to make a jet pack out of a cereal box on Along the Way, and I knew my boys would love it! There’s something exciting about imagining that you have rockets on your back, propelling you into space!
For this craft, you will need:
- A cereal box
- Tape and glue
- Construction paper
- Aluminum foil
- Something to use for backpack style straps – ribbon, string, rope
- Markers
- Scissors
Poke four holes on one side of your cereal box (one in each corner) in order to attach some backpack style straps. We used some nylon cord that we had. If you start with the bottom knot, it is MUCH easier! I started with the top first on the first strap, and it was very hard to tie the bottom knot inside the box!!
Cover your box with foil or construction paper.
Then, decorate your rocket pack with gauges, buttons, etc. Like I’ve said before, my boys always want to rush through the craft part so that they can get on to the playing part, so ours were pretty plain! For each of the rockets, we used half of a toilet paper roll covered with foil. Add some construction paper “fire” to your rockets! Attach the rockets to your jet pack with tape or glue.
Ready for blast off!

Hi! I've just stumbled across your blog recently, for although my two girls will sit and color, they'd much rather be horsing around. I love your ideas and I love these rocket jet-packs! I'm sure my girls (3 and 6) will get a kick out of them!
