Popsicle Stick Flag Craft

Here’s a fun 4th of July craft for kids! Grab some popsicle sticks and make adorable flags. Add ribbon to your completed flags, and you’ll be able to hang them on a doorknob or on a hook. Super simple and super cute!

I would recommend this craft for almost any age! Kids ages 10+ will be able to assemble the flags on their own with a low-temp glue gun. Younger kids will love painting the sticks and can assemble the flags with adult help.

Supplies Needed:

Popsicle Sticks – 7 per flag
Craft Sticks – 1 per flag. These are wider than popsicle sticks
Mini popsicle sticks – 2 per flag. Or, just cut regular popsicle sticks
Red, white, and blue paint – we used acrylic
Star hole punch
Blue or red ribbon
White paper or card stock
White school glue
Hot glue gun
Scissors

You can substitute a white paint pen for the star hole punch if desired. Draw the stars instead of gluing them on.

Step 1: Paint 4 popsicle sticks red and 3 popsicle sticks white. Some of us painted both sides and others didn’t. It doesn’t matter which you do.

Step 2: Cut two segments from your craft stick. Paint them blue. The pieces I cut were not quite half the craft stick.

For each flag, you’ll need the pieces shown below. Glue the two mini popsicle sticks to the back of the flag to hold it together. Then add the blue sticks.

We found this star hole punch at Hobby Lobby, and it was just perfect for this project!

Here’s a star hole punch on Amazon. Another option is to draw on the stars with a paint pen.

I cut the stars out of card stock, which made them easier to pick up and glue on, but regular paper works too! Rub a tiny bit of white school glue on the stars with your finger, and then stick them on the flag.

Here’s a view of the back of the flag so you can see the mini popsicle sticks holding the flag together. Glue on some ribbon if you want to be able to hang your flag.
