Aidan was reading his science book out loud to me tonight while I was making dinner. We are learning about insects right now, and he was reading about different chemical defense mechanisms of insects. Did you know that grasshoppers defend themselves by voluntarily vomiting the contents of their stomach onto their attacker? Aidan loves to play with grasshoppers. He read about what they do, and then said, “Oh NO! So THAT’S what that green stuff is that gets on my hands! I thought they were bleeding!”
But then he read on a little further and learned that the grasshoppers vomit out brown stuff, so maybe the green stuff was something different… Either way, I’m not touching them any more!
And after what we learned about flies, we are not having ANY more of them in our house this summer!!
