Here’s a game that preschoolers will love – Car Race Counting!

Car Race Counting Game for Preschoolers

My husband built this game out of a piece of poster board and a little bit of white duct tape. He cut the poster board into 4 inch wide strips (so each lane is 2 inches wide) and taped three strips together end-to-end. We left it this length for the sake of taking pictures, but the game would be better with one more section so that the race lasts longer.

Playing the game is extremely simple. Roll the dice and move your car that number of squares. The first one to the finish line wins!

This game is perfect for preschoolers. Jonathan (age 3) has just gotten into board games and this was right up his alley. (Although if you make a counting mistake, your older brother will be sure to tell you what you’re doing wrong!)

I made the same game except I also made a die (out milk cartons) with 4 sides green construction paper and 2 side red. If they get a green on top, "green light, go," just one space, and if they get a red on top, "red light stop," and they stay where they are. It is easier for young preschoolers than counting and a good introduction how how to read dice in a game.
