Celebrate fall with these fun learning activities for preschoolers! Fall is always such a welcome change after the heat of summer. Here in Texas, we won’t have any fall leaves until mid November, but in October it does at least start to feel a little like fall and not just a cooler version of summer.
Cut-and-Paste Fall Trees
My preschoolers love cutting and gluing! I drew a simple fall tree outline on paper, and Jonathan and Janie colored them in. Then we cut out fall leaves and glued them on. Jonathan is just starting to cut out shapes, so he did a couple and then wanted some help. Janie (2.5) is just starting to use scissors and does only random cutting, so I cut the leaves out for her.
The finished trees are so pretty!
Geoboard Pumpkins and Spider Webs
I put out our geoboards and some leftover Rainbow Loom bands in orange, white, brown, and green.
Jonathan had so much fun building a web for his plastic spider ring spider! (We cut the ring part off of several spiders for playing with.) He kept saying, “Okay, now he’s building a web over here…” as he stretched the bands.
Janie and I (mostly me) built some pumpkins. She loves the geoboards! Just stretching the rubber bands and getting them to stick somewhere is fun for her, and she is happy to work at it a long time.
Gresham came along later and built a Jack ‘O Lantern:
And someone made this spider web:
Fall Leaves Alphabet Bingo
I found a bag of silk fall leaves at Hobby Lobby, and we used these as markers for our alphabet bingo game. Always a hit, even for kids who already know their letters! Janie doesn’t recognize any letters, but she is always happy to play. Jonathan is starting to really remember the letters – yay!
Lacing Spider Webs
I saw this idea on Mom Endeavors to do a paper plate lacing spider web, and it was a lot of fun! Simply use a hole punch to punch holes around the edge of a paper plate. Then tie a long piece of string to one hole and lace it up!
Janie (age 2.5) was too young for this but Jonathan did his by himself.
I made this one for Janie.
Ta-da! Here are our finished spider webs. I used hot glue to attach the spiders to the webs. Also, I just tied off the end of the string when we were finished lacing.
Roll it, Write it, Count it Mats
I had a blogging friend make these fun counting mats for us! If you don’t want a fall version, I have a year-round version that you can find here: Roll it, Write it, Count it Mats
This activity is quite simple. Roll the dice, write the number that you roll, and then count out that many objects. We used little plastic leaves from Hobby Lobby, but it would also be fun to use acorns, real fall leaves, candy corn, etc. So many options!
I laminated our mats so that we can use them over and over with a dry erase marker.
Jonathan has been loving this math activity! Any activity that combines dice, markers, and fun objects to hold is sure to be a hit!

I tried to download both versions of your roll it, write it, count it mats and each one only has the terms of use as the first page and a blank second page. Are they no longer available?
