Adorable Felt Christmas Ornaments (with Patterns)

Well, it’s time for one of my FAVORITE things – Christmas crafting! Woo hoo! I love Christmas ornaments, especially homemade ones. In this post, we’re going to show you how to make adorable classic felt Christmas ornaments, and you can print patterns for the gingerbread house ornament, snowman ornament, and reindeer ornament at the bottom of the post.

These felt Christmas ornaments would be perfect to make with a group or class. They are simple to make, and the materials are things you can find in your craft closet!

These ornaments are sweet and classic Christmas designs. The gingerbread house is especially fun because you can decorate it any way you like. Make a whole village of gingerbread houses!

Supplies Needed

In addition to the felt, the supplies needed for these felt Christmas ornaments are very flexible. Raid you craft closet and see what you have! Here’s what we used.

• Felt – brown, tan, white red, green, yellow, black
• Buttons
• Beads
• Brown pipe cleaners
• Red ribbon for hanging the ornaments
• Patterned ribbon for decorating the gingerbread houses
• Googly eyes – for the reindeer
• Hot glue gun
• Tacky Glue
• Fiber fill stuffing – just a tiny bit

How to Put Together the Felt Christmas Ornaments

The process for assembling the ornaments is the same for each design. We’ll start with the gingerbread house.

First, cut out the felt pieces. Cut a piece of ribbon for hanging the ornament – you’ll need to glue the ribbon to the inside of the ornament.

Use hot glue or Tacky Glue to attach the snow pieces to the roof line and the door and the button decorations. Glue the ribbon to the back of the gingerbread house.

Then, you’ll want to glue three sides of the gingerbread house together, leaving an opening for a tiny bit of stuffing. Apply to the glue to the edges of the house only. Hot glue is the best for this step since it dries instantly, but Tacky Glue would also work. You’ll just need to let it dry before stuffing the gingerbread house and gluing the final side closed.

After you’ve stuffed the ornament, glue the final side closed. Then admire how totally cute your gingerbread house ornament is!

Then go make several more gingerbread houses! It would be fun to make these with a group and see all the designs that everyone comes up with.

The snowman ornament is assembled the same way. Bend brown pipe cleaners to make arms, and glue them in between the top and bottom layers.

Then make a classic Christmas tree with button ornaments. Other options for ornaments are sequins, beads, and really anything else you can find in your craft closet!

Unfortunately, someone threw away the Christmas tree pattern that I made before I had a chance to finalize it. So I don’t have a pattern for that one! However, it’s very easy to make your own. I folded a piece of paper in half and cut it out that way so that it would be symmetrical when I opened the paper up.

The trunk is just a rectangle of felt glued inside the ornament. Use two layers of felt to give it a more substantial look.

Finally, make a cute little Rudolph the Reindeer ornament!

In the patterns, you’ll find a pattern for his head, ears, face (the tan part), and nose. The inside of the ear was too tiny to make a pattern for – just cut a little triangle. We used googly eyes, but you can also just cut felt eyes.
