Kids will love these fun printable Valentines because they have a cool hidden message! Write your message in white crayon, and then the recipient can reveal the message with watercolor paints. So fun!

We packaged up the Valentine cards in little bags with an inexpensive paintbrush and two little watercolor disks. Such a fun idea for a homemade Valentine card! Janie is so excited to give these to her friends!

You can print the cards at the bottom of this post.

Supplies Needed:

  • Valentine Cards – print from the link at the bottom of this post
  • Cheap paintbrushes – I bought a pack of 12 at Hobby Lobby for $1.99
  • Plastic bags – we found these cute resealable plastic bags in the cake decorating aisle at Hobby Lobby
  • White crayons (1 or 2)
  • Watercolors – make sure the trays can be cut apart

How to Make Hidden Message Valentines

First, print your valentines and cut them out. I would recommend printing on card stock! There are 3 valentines per page, so you can decide how many pages you need.

Cut out the Valentines. Then write a hidden message on the back side of the card with white crayon!

My 6 year old was really impressed with this activity. She had so much fun watching the message appear!

Then she had fun writing messages for her friends.

Make the hearts say whatever you want! It’s also fun to add designs like hearts or stars or a border around the edge of the heart.

I found the watercolors at Walmart in the craft section. The office supplies section had Crayola watercolors, which seem to have recently been changed to a higher quality tray that can’t be cut apart. You want a cheap watercolor tray that you can cut!

We decided to include two colors of paint in each Valentine card.

We created hidden messages a few weeks ago on a half sheet of paper. We used foam brushes and liquid watercolors to reveal the message. The kids in my group absolutely loved it! I have ages 3-8, and the littler ones drew pictures as their "message." It was hard to tell whether they had more fun coming up with a message/picture or more fun with the "reveal." Next year I will remember to save this activity for Valentine's Day. So much fun!
