We got this recipe for homemade silly putty from Kids Activities Blog.  What a great idea!  This stuff is stretchy, squishy fun that leaves no residue behind.

Here’s how to make it:

Dissolve 1/2 teaspoon borax in 1/4 cup warm water.

Mix together:

borax/water mixture

1/4 cup cornstarch

2-3 oz. school glue (We had a 4 0z. bottle with about half left, and we dumped it all in)

Food coloring

At first, it’s a gooey mess, but keep working, and it will form a putty consistency.  We forgot to add the food coloring, so ours is just white.

We made tracks with construction vehicles and footprints with plastic animals.  Then Aidan made a snowman with toothpick arms.  This stuff also bounces!

To save your goop, dip it in water and then place it in an airtight container.

I made this silly putty with my 10 year old nephew, and it worked great! My nephew couldn't wait to take it home to share with his siblings. I only wish I had known it would take so long to set. Maybe we did something wrong, but the consistency wasn't right until the following day. Prior to that, it was really sticky and gooey(which of course my nephew loved). Still this was definitely worth the wait and the end result was comparable to the store bought silly putty. Thanks for putting out this recipe! :)
