Use your LEGO bricks to build adorable chickens and even a chicken coop to go with them!

Whether you want to make a LEGO version of your backyard chickens or you just think farm life is cool, this is a great LEGO building idea.

My 11 year old daughter is the one who takes care of our chickens, and she loves our little LEGO chicken coop complete with nesting boxes! It’s such a fun scene to play with.

We built one rooster and two hens. Kids can adjust the colors to accommodate the bricks they have on hand. We made one of our hens gray since we have four gray hens. Ours are half silkie/half Easter egger. Then we also have two white leghorn hens and three production reds (similar to Rhode Island reds).

Ready to build your own LEGO chicken?

We’re going to show you how we built the rooster, but the process is the same for a hen. Just make the hen’s comb and wattle smaller. (We’ll show you how!)

LEGO Chicken Building Instructions:

Step 1: Grab a 2 x 3 plate. Add two 2 x 2 inverted slopes and two 1 x 2 inverted slopes.

Step 2: Attach them to the 2 x 3 plate as shown.

Step 3: Add a 2 x 3 plate. Then find two 1 x 1 bricks and two 1 x 1 bricks with a stud on the side.

Step 4: Add the bricks to the 2 x 3 plate as shown.

Step 5: Find the pieces shown for building the rooster’s wattle and beak.

Step 6: Place a 1 x 1 plate with a ring on top of a 1 x 1 brown plate. Attach two 1 x 1 red round plates to the ring, one on each side.

Step 7: Add another 1 x 1 brown plate and a 1 x 1 plate with a tooth. The color I used is called “bright light orange” on BrickLink.

Step 8: Add a 1 x 1 red plate and a 1 x 1 red plate with a clip.

Step 9: Attach the beak and wattle to the head. Find two 1 x 1 bricks with a stud on the side and two eyes.

Step 10: Add the eyes to the rooster’s head.

Step 11: Find a 2 x 3 plate, a 1 x 3 brick, one 1 x 1 brick with a stud on the side, two 1 x 1 bricks with a stud on the side (headlight style), and a 1 x 1 plate.

Step 12: Attach the 2 x 3 plate to the back of the body, and then add a 1 x 3 brick.

Step 13: Add the two 1 x 1 headlight bricks to the back of the rooster, with the 1 x 1 brick with a stud on the side in the center. I used a 1 x 1 plate to raise up the center brick.

Step 14: Add a 1 x 3 brick to the back of the head. Then add a 1 x 1 red plate and a 1 x 1 red plate with a ring.

Step 15: Add 2 x 2 corner plates to make the wings. Then add 1 x 2 curved slopes to create the tail. I used two brown ones with a dark brown curved slope in the middle. You can use whatever colors you want!

Add two 1 x 1 plate with a tooth for the feet.

Your rooster is complete!

To make a hen, use a 1 x 1 red plate with a clip on top of the head instead of the plate with the ring.

Then instead of the larger tail, I added three 1 x 1 white slopes (30 degree) to the back of the body.

You might want to build a fence for your chicken yard!

Or just get started on a super cute chicken coop.

I used a 16 x 16 plate for the base of our coop. I added nesting boxes and yellow plates to look like shavings.

We have a few little LEGO eggs – some came from Harry Potter sets and some came from Jurassic World sets. They are just perfect for our chicken coop!

The only thing I didn’t add was a place for the chickens to roost at night, but you might want to add one to your LEGO chicken coop.

Have fun building!!
