Here are some super cool LEGO ideas with marbles!

LEGO bricks and marbles are always a winning combination. You can make a LEGO marble maze, all kinds of marble runs and tracks, and so much more. Everyone has marbles on hand, and kids love to play with them and design little games for them. So it’s a perfect activity!

Honestly, if you just put out a tub of marbles with your LEGO bricks, you will inspire kids to make their own creations. But here are some ideas if they need some inspiration!

LEGO Marble Maze

Building a marble maze is a great place to start. We used tiles to make our marbles roll smoothly, but this project works great without them. You can roll a marble across a baseplate with the studs exposed and it will roll just fine.

A 32 x 32 baseplate works really well for building a marble maze. Then you just need bricks!

I made my pathways two studs wide. Some marbles may be too wide to fit through a two stud path, but we found plenty in our collection that fit just fine.

Kids will have fun tinkering with their maze and changing the pathways around until they get it just how they want it.

LEGO Marble Ramps

This is a cool contraption! Build some back-and-forth marble ramps. It’s fun to watch the marbles go down the ramps, and they make a cool sound too.

There are two elements to this project:

  • Build ramps, with bricks under the tiles for support
  • Build walls to keep the marbles on the right path

For this project, you’ll need some tiles, and they can really be any size or color. Kids can modify their ramps to accommodate the bricks they have. It’s also helpful to have some slope bricks. I like the 2 x 3 slopes, but any size will work.

Then you just need bricks, plus plenty of plates so that you can get the height of the slope just right.

This project took a LOT of bricks haha. I started at the bottom and built my way up. If you start at the top, you can probably use less bricks because you can design the supports better than I did.

You’ll want to use two or three slope bricks in each level to keep the marble moving.

Each turn requires three 2 x 3 slope bricks.

LEGO Bowling Game

This is so simple and so fun! Use your LEGO bricks to build a little bowling game that really works.

My son wanted to have tiles in the center of our bowling lane, and then exposed studs on the sides to be the gutters. It worked really well!

We made our pins out of a 1 x 1 round brick and a 1 x 1 cone. Flick the marble with your finger and try to knock down all the pins!

Epic Marble Run

If you really want to build an impressive marble run with some cool moving parts, here’s our biggest and best one!

Thanks Sarah. I loved the ideas. I'll try to build the bowling game with my students here in Brazil. Do you create all these lego projects?

Yes, everything on this site is built by me and my kids! Sometimes we use ideas online for inspiration, but they are always our own creations!

As a retired teacher i can see these as wonderful appropriate learning centers to reinforce and make real the science concepts being taught. They are wonderful. I work in a library and am in charge of our STEAM program.
