This shape activity is one that preschoolers love, and it only takes a minute to put it together.
Jonathan (age 3.5) has been desperate to “do school” when we are doing school. And one or two coloring pages won’t cut it! He colors something and then says, “Now what can I do, Mom?” I’m glad he’s so eager to learn, but I’m having to scramble to keep up with him. This shape activity worked really well!
To set up the activity, I drew four shapes on paper.
I handed Jonathan a felt cookie from our play food stash to get him started. “What shape is this?” I asked. He thought about it a minute and said, “Cookie!” It was interesting to me that he didn’t say circle, and apparently this was a good activity for him! After the cookie, he got the idea and started looking for things to match up with his shapes.
Gresham helped him quite a bit, and they came up with these items.
After we were done, I drew some shapes on a piece of paper, and he colored them in. Home preschool success, and it took me almost no time at all!

We did one walking around our neighborhood: Easter decorations, birds nests in trees, a dog, trees budding, etc. Took about an hour of walking around and we plan on doing one again today.
