Print these Star Wars writing prompts! There are 16 cards to print.
Writing is much easier to do when you get the chance to write about something you’re interested in. Even reluctant writers will enjoy writing about their favorite Star Wars movies and characters!
Use these Star Wars writing prompts as part of your ELA plans or as a special activity for May the 4th (Star Wars day). They would also be perfect for some summer writing!
These writing prompts are best suited for 3rd – 6th grade students, but some of them will work for 1st and 2nd graders also, especially the narrative ones. I included prompts that address narrative, descriptive, how-to, persuasive, and compare/contrast styles of writing. One prompt is an idea for a news article, so there is definitely plenty of variety.

Here’s a preview of some of the writing prompts:
I printed ours on heavyweight paper to make them a little more durable.
Gresham and I did the first writing prompt a few weeks ago – which is your favorite of the Star Wars movies and why. We did a pre-writing map where he drew three circles and wrote three reasons why he liked that movie best inside the circles. Then he drew three lines coming out from each circle and wrote details to support his reasons on the lines. It was easy for him to write his three paragraph essay using his pre-writing map.
Jonathan enjoyed writing about which Star Wars ship he would like to fly!
We tried out a couple of the story prompts last week. The boys had a great time and were very motivated!
These printable writing prompts are free to print, but they are for personal or classroom use only. Please do not distribute the file or make copies to distribute. I would love for you to share this post, but send people to the post rather than distributing the file yourself. Thank you!

Thank you so much for these prompts. My 3rd grade son hates writing so I've been trying to think of writing ideas that he would enjoy.
