Here are some Perler bead patterns to make featuring characters from Star Wars The Force Awakens.

If you’re not familiar with Perler beads, they are little plastic beads that you use to build designs and then fuse them together with an iron.  We bought some last summer, and the boys love them!  Great fine motor practice too.

Aidan (age 12) created all of the designs except the Millennium Falcon, which was my design.

BB8

We were hoping that BB8 would be as lovable a character as R2-D2, and we were not disappointed with his role in The Force Awakens!

Kylo Ren

His helmet has four silver stripes, but there was not a way to do that without making the mask really huge.  Still, I think it looks pretty good!

Need Perler Beads?  Here’s what you need to make these projects.

Square Pegboards – This 4 pack of pegboards is great because the boards also lock together to create a larger work space.

Huge Jar of Beads – You might want to start with a variety of colors, or you can purchase bags of individual colors.  We bought the big jar of beads, and then we have supplemented with extra black, white, and gray.

The prices on the individual color bags are definitely lower at Hobby Lobby or Michael’s.  The big tub is a good item to purchase at either of those stores with a coupon.

Perler beads is a favorite activity in our school's summer camp program - add Star Wars characters to that and I'm sure we have a hit on our hands! I do appreciate that most of the designs are compact without jutting parts (Tie Fighter excepted) as I find those parts tend to break off with handling, much to the dismay of the child.
