Tie Dye Bookmark Craft

Use shaving cream marbling to make these amazing tie dye bookmarks!

This is a fantastic craft for back-to-school time or anytime really.

If you’ve never tried shaving cream marbling, I highly recommend it! It’s super fun. Young kids can do this art process with help and older kids (ages 10 and up) will have a blast making these colorful bookmarks on their own.

Let’s get started! I’ll show you how to make beautiful tie dye bookmarks with shaving cream marbling.

Supplies Needed:

• Shaving cream – store brand is great
• Liquid food coloring
• Paper – we used card stock
• Scissors
• Shallow baking dish or something similar
• Optional – hole punch and ribbon

Liquid food coloring can be hard to find these days as most stores carry gel food coloring.

I used liquid food coloring from Amazon. This food coloring set is the one pictured, but I have also ordered these natural liquid colors as well.

Step 1: Cut out your bookmarks. We traced a bookmark that we like the size of on cardstock and cut out several.

Step 2: Fill your baking dish with a layer of shaving cream. It doesn’t have to be quite as thick as what we did! We were having fun spraying the shaving cream haha.

Step 3: Add a few drops of food coloring, and use a spoon to swirl the colors until you like the way it looks.

Step 4: Press your bookmark down into the shaving cream. It doesn’t need to be buried! But make sure that you press gently all over the bookmark so that the entire thing gets the color.

Let it sit there a minute to absorb the color. It won’t take long! Then peel your bookmark out of the shaving cream.

Step 5: This is the fun part! Use a credit card or gift card to scrape off the excess shaving cream. It’s so satisfying.

Then make more prints! We got all three of these bookmarks from the same pan of shaving cream. You can swirl the colors again after each print to make the design slightly different.

You can make other color combinations! But you will have to rinse out the pan and start over with new shaving cream. We made all of these color variations, and we still have plenty of shaving cream left in our can.

If you want, you can punch a hole in the top of your bookmark and add some ribbon. It’s a fun touch!
