Make some beautiful toilet paper roll fall trees! This is a simple (but beautiful!) craft made from simple materials that you probably have on hand already.
I would recommend this craft for preschoolers (with help of course) up through age 10 or so. In fact, my 14 year old and I had fun making these together!
This fall tree craft project is quite flexible, and you can dress up the basic tree design with whatever you prefer. If you’re working with a limited budget, you can easily make these fall trees with a group of kids and just stick to toilet paper rolls, cardboard, and paint.
Or you can make it a more open-ended project by offering additional art supplies such as buttons, felt, ribbon, or fabric. This is a great time to use up odds and ends from your craft stash!
Supplies Needed for Toilet Paper Roll Fall Trees:
- Toilet paper rolls – one per tree
- Cardboard from boxes, etc
- Paint – brown, red, yellow, orange
- Buttons (optional)
- Felt (optional)
- Hot glue
I really loved using a variety of materials for our fall trees. The different colors and textures make them look so beautiful together.
Ready to get started? Let’s make some fall trees!
Step 1: Cut out the parts of your tree.
The trunk can be cut from one toilet paper roll. We cut our trunks so that the height of our trees would not all be the same. I think they look good with some variety!
Cut slits in the sides of the toilet paper roll to hold the piece of cardboard that will make the leaves.
Cut out the leaves from corrugated cardboard, such as from a shipping box.
We choose to add some additional texture by cutting out individual leaves from cardboard.
Make sure that the leaves fit into the slots you cut in the truck.
Step 2: Paint the trunk and leaves.
I used orange paint for the leaves, but then for the individual leaves I mixed different hues of the same color by adding white and yellow paint. The finished tree looks so good!
Step 3: Assemble your tree with hot glue or your favorite craft glue.
I am really loving how this next tree turned out! For this one, I decided to try adding some buttons that were left over from various projects, and I just love the colors.
Super fun! Have a great time making fall trees!
