It’s time for LEGO® Fun Friday!

The building challenge for this week was to build a landmark from your neighborhood or city.  It could be a man-made landmark or building, or a natural landmark like a mountain or waterfall.

We can’t wait to see what your kids built!  Last time, we had several readers who posted pictures on the Frugal Fun for Boys facebook page.  My boys were so happy that so many kids did the building challenge!  There were lots of great ideas posted.  If you want to participate in LEGO® Fun Friday, you can either link up a blog post here in this post, or share photos on facebook.

My boys ended up doing lots of building, so here we go!

First, Aidan built a war memorial (WWII and Vietnam) that is in our town.  It has walls with names of veterans and a statue with an eagle. Next to the memorial is a water tower, so he built that too.

Gresham built the local nature center.  I love his hiking guy!

Yesterday, we had the privilege of going to a sneak preview of the new sea turtle rescue center at the Sea Life Aquarium at Grapevine Mills.  The boys had a blast, and would have watched the turtles all day if we had let them!  Aidan and Owen decided that they must build Sea Life out of LEGO®’s!

The entrance was my favorite part of their construction!

After the minifigures got their tickets, it was on to see the turtles!  These two are Roxy and Squirt.  Boomer was the boys’ favorite turtle, but Aidan said that they didn’t have a toy of the correct type of sea turtle as Boomer.

This part is the tank that you can walk through – the LEGO®’s didn’t quite do it justice!

And just for fun, here’s a picture of one of the real sea turtles!  (I love turtles of all kinds – always have!)

If you’re local to the DFW area and have a chance to go to Sea Life and check out the rescued turtles, I would highly recommend it. Aidan and Gresham asked many questions and had a great time finding out each turtle’s story.  This was our second visit to Sea Life. The first time, the boys sort of hurried through, and the aquarium seemed small.  This time, since we knew what all there was to see, they went slower and enjoyed each exhibit.  We spent quite a bit of time observing the sharks and the sting rays – such fascinating creatures!

Now it’s your turn!  Link up your LEGO® post, or if you don’t have a blog (or don’t blog about LEGO®’s) feel free to share photos on the Frugal Fun for Boys facebook page.  The next two weeks will be very busy for us with VBS and then a family vacation, so I will announce the next LEGO® building challenge in August after we get back!

I am loving your challenge this week! One of my girl's favorite thing to build with Legos is the zoo. I am embarrassed to say I just linked a Lego posts before realizing the link-up is specific to the challenge! Feel free to delete it. Sorry.

Jessica - I saw your comment and then forgot to answer it! Sorry! Anyway, it's totally fine to link up any Lego post. The link-up is for the challenge or any Lego post. Thanks!!

I just recently started requiring my son to build 5 lego scenes from the books he is reading in place of doing simple book reports. This keeps him from just reading, reading, reading - he has to do a bit of work before he gets to go onto the next book. Really neat to see the creative ways he comes up with to build things!

Yeah, this is a fantastic idea! This is what makes Lego such a wonderful creative tool. Coming up to summer holidays, this was definitely found at the right time ;) We could build the places we visit during the holidays. Great idea! Thanks again.
