Aidan really received some fun birthday gifts this year!  Last week we made plastic out of milk and vinegar using a book he received, and this week, Aidan used LEGO® to build a maze track for his hexbug nano.

Build a Hexbug track out of Legos

We have seen hexbugs at the store, but we didn’t really know what they did.  The hexbug nano is quite fun!  It’s vibrating motor causes it to skitter around the floor just like a real bug.  Hexbug sells tracks for the toy bugs, but why buy one when you can build one with LEGO®’s?

Aidan used the kitchen table as a surface to work on, and built a maze for his hexbug.

This project was a great boredom buster!  Aidan was busy all afternoon.  He made some parts of the track covered so that the hexbug could travel through tunnels.  The hexbug can navigate tight turns with ease – it really was fun to watch.  He has been experimenting with getting the hexbug to climb up a ramp, but so far that hasn’t been too successful.  He’s not giving up yet!

Here’s a video of Aidan’s hexbug track in action!

This works great!! We've done it with Duplo bricks before...we'll have to make one with our "little Lego" now that we're playing with those. :-) Thanks for reminding me!

I am so excited about this!! We're using Hexbugs in my Kinder enrichment class in a couple weeks, and I had been planning on letting them create ways to make tracks for them. This is perfect!
