This art project for kids turns photos into a simple and fun boredom buster!

We’re still adjusting to life with a newborn, and the other day I needed an easy way to keep everyone busy.  While Janie was asleep, I took photos of each of the boys making silly faces.  I printed their favorite shots on our laser printer (so, only in black and white). Then while I was feeding her, they turned their photos into works of art!

Photo Collage Art Project for Kids

Materials Needed:

  • Photos of your kids faces.  Have them make all sorts of different expressions!
  • Paper
  • Markers, colored pencils, etc.
  • Glue sticks
  • Scissors
  • Collage materials – construction paper, foil (for a robot?  or a superhero?), felt, fabric, scrap book paper

The boys had fun turning themselves into all sorts of creatures!  Here is Gresham as a parakeet:

And Aidan as a superhero:

For some of the pictures, the boys simply drew their designs.  Aidan used construction paper to make a collage style picture of himself as a skateboarder.

This one of Gresham as a dragon cracks me up.  I think he really sees himself this way!  So funny.

Oh I love the bird and the dragon!
We did a similar collage activity with photos recently and had SO MUCH FUN... who'd have thought a few black and white photos could inspire so much creativity!!

I really like this idea! My boys are younger (4 & 2) but they love to cut and paste. It's their favorite art activity right now. I'm sure they would enjoy a silly project like this, even if their creations aren't so detailed.
And I love Gresham's dragon...his little face is too funny :-)
