This Christmas ornament craft idea is simple enough for preschoolers to do, but kids of any age will enjoy making them!
Jonathan (age 3, almost 4) and I enjoyed making these ornaments together. They turned out so cute! Here’s what you need to make them:
- 1.5 inch wooden balls (I found them at Hobby Lobby but I bet Michael’s has them too). Or use styrofoam balls. I think that the wood gives it a nice weight without it being too heavy, though.
- Sparkly pom pom balls (I found these at Michael’s)
- Ribbon
- Glue – we used hot glue, but Tacky Glue would also work well.
First, glue a loop of ribbon to the wooden ball.
Then just cover with pom pom balls! Super easy. We used hot glue because I wanted them to dry instantly. I did the glue and Jonathan did the pom pom balls, and it worked really well!
Have fun crafting!

Love this idea and am gonna to try it with my class. A suggestion I have is to perhaps use pre-scented wooden balls like those used for aromatherapy or make your own scented ones by adding essential oils to the wooden ball. These would make a cool kid-made gift and can even be sold at school craft markers for funraising
