Mix up some squishy homemade sand play dough for beach pretend play! This play dough is so easy to make, and it keeps well in an airtight container for a couple of months. We store ours in a ziplock bag.
One afternoon, I set out a basket of shells for the boys to use to make prints.
And then another day, we did a beach scene with blue play dough, sand play dough, and Safari Toob animals.
Great afternoon boredom buster!
Here’s how to make sand play dough!
You will need:
- Flour
- Salt
- Water
- Oil
- Cream of Tartar
- Sand
I used this play dough recipe from The Imagination Tree, and once the play dough was cool, I kneaded in 1 cup of sand. I probably could have added more sand, but I wanted to make sure that it was still squishy and moldable.
Also check out our Sand Cloud Dough recipe for a loose moldable sand that won’t dry out! This stuff can be shaped with sand castle molds and it keeps forever.
