Here’s a fun dragonfly craft to make with items from your craft stash! These adorable dragonflies are made out of popsicle sticks, pom poms, buttons, and a couple other basic supplies.

Make your dragonfly craft into a magnet for the refrigerator by putting some peel-and-stick magnet tape on the back, or glue on a small magnet.

The kids and I made several dragonflies in different colors. It’s hard to pick a favorite!

Ready to make your own dragonfly craft? Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Popsicle sticks
  • Paint – optional, for painting the popsicle sticks
  • Pipe cleaners – in bright colors
  • Buttons
  • Pom pom balls
  • Googly eyes
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue or Tacky Glue or your choice of craft glue

Start by painting your popsicle sticks. This is not an essential step, but it does make the dragonflies look really nice.

While the paint is drying, fold pipe cleaners into wings. We used one pipe cleaner for each wing. Loop them over to make a double wing, and then wrap the end around a couple times to secure it. Then trim off the excess.

Glue a pom pom ball to your popsicle stick to make the head. Then glue on the wings. I glued on both wings at the same time, and I added a little extra glue in the center to secure them.

Give the glue a minute to dry, and then start adding buttons. If you have a low-temp glue gun, kids can do the gluing themselves. If you’re not comfortable with a glue gun, I would recommend Tacky Glue. It’s a good strong craft glue that works well for kids to use.

Crafting with buttons is one of my favorite things! Make sure to put one button on top of the wings.

Add some googly eyes, and your dragonfly craft is complete!

Make some adorable Pipe Cleaner Animals! Would be fun to create a whole zoo.

Or turn some toilet paper rolls into cute Paper Roll Dogs.

Have fun crafting!
