This simple felt craft is so sweet! Make a little heart shaped purse out of felt and a ribbon for a shoulder strap. It even has a little heart shaped pocket on the front!

This purse is very similar to our No-Sew Felt Cat and Owl purses. We chose to sew this one because the blanket stitch around the edge looks so cute in a contrasting color. If sewing it not your thing, you can definitely assemble this with hot glue just like our cat and owl purses!

Supplies Needed for the Felt Heart Purse

The materials for this project are so simple. If you’ve got a decent craft stash, you may have everything on hand.

  • Two pieces of pink felt – I used heavyweight felt from Hobby Lobby
  • One small piece of red felt
  • Pink and red thread
  • Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Needle

The polka dot ribbon came from Walmart, and it was just perfect for this project!

The owl and cat purses have printable patterns, but I did not make one for this project since it’s just a basic heart. Use paper to cut out a heart. I folded the paper in half first to make it easier to cut a nice symmetrical heart.

Then trace your heart and cut out two felt hearts for the front and back of the purse.

Cut out a smaller heart from red felt. Stitch the red heart to the front of the purse. If you leave the top open, it will make a cute pocket.

Then stitch around the edge of the purse. Sew the ribbon into the purse between the layers.

And that’s all there is to it!

In the past, we have not done a lot of Valentine crafts because the boys thought all the hearts and pink were “too mushy.” Janie, on the other hand, loves it all! It’s fun to try some new things!
