Make some adorable twig Christmas tree ornaments!

You probably have everything on hand that you need for this project, except maybe the jingle bells. But even if you don’t, the supplies are so simple to get!

Earlier this fall, we had two large dead trees removed from our backyard. It was very sad because they were beautiful trees! But they didn’t leaf out this spring and were clearly dead, and we were afraid that the dead branches would come down in a wind storm and land either on our new fence or on our house. Neither of those are good possibilities, so we had the trees professionally removed.

Now we have LOTS and LOTS of sticks and branches that we saved from the trees, so expect more stick crafts in the coming days haha!

Hang these ornaments on your Christmas tree, use them to decorate gifts, hang them on the fridge or on a kitchen cabinet, or use them as doorknob hangers. So many possibilities!

Supplies Needed:

  • Sticks
  • Garden clippers for trimming your sticks (or scissors, but they might get ruined!)
  • Craft sticks or popsicle sticks
  • Jingle bells
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue
  • Ribbon
  • Paint – we used acrylic

If you want to make ornaments for the tree, I would recommend using popsicle sticks. If you want to make door hangers, I’d go with the larger craft sticks.

Step 1: Paint your craft sticks or popsicle sticks. We decided that red, green, and yellow were the best colors. Brown works too, but it just doesn’t pop as much.

Step 2: Select and trim your sticks so that you have a series of sticks that gradually get wider.

Step 3: Glue your sticks to your popsicle stick. We used hot glue, but Tacky Glue or wood glue would also work great.

Step 4: Glue a loop of ribbon to the back of the popsicle stick so that you can hang your ornament. Then make a bow and glue it on.

Step 5: Add a jingle bell if you want to, and your ornament is complete!

So sweet and simple!
