These Christmas LEGO Mosaics are an open-ended building challenge that kids (and adults!) will enjoy.

I have four mosaics to show you, but really there are so many possibilities for designs. Hopefully these ideas will inspire LEGO fans to create many more!

Supplies Needed:

  • 32 x 32 baseplates
  • Basic bricks!
  • Optional – we used wheels for the truck mosaic. Insert a 1 x 1 round plate into the wheel and you can attach it to the baseplate.

I built these Christmas LEGO mosaics on 32 x 32 baseplates, but we also have a set of printable LEGO Christmas Building Cards that feature 8 mosaics to build with 16 x 16 plates.

You can order green 32 x 32 LEGO baseplates on Amazon, or if you want the tan color, the best bet is to order from BrickLink.

Christmas Tree

We’ll start with an obvious choice for a Christmas LEGO mosaic! It’s fun to build a tree because you can design it however you want.

For the star, my son first connected a 2 x 3 yellow plate and a 1 x 3 yellow plate by using a second 2 x 3 to attach them. This creates a 3 x 3 square. Then he added four 1 x 3 yellow slopes and a 1 x 1 yellow brick.

Center the star by placing two 1 x 2 yellow plates with one stud (also called jumper plates) to a 2 x 2 brick.

Gingerbread House

A gingerbread house is another fabulous challenge because each person’s will turn out different! You can copy our pattern if you’d like, or get creative and make your own design.

It would be fun to make these with a group and then display all the different houses.

Nativity

Build a sweet little nativity with simple figures. They don’t need to have faces!

Sheep are easy animals to add. My kids thought I should make a donkey but I couldn’t figure out how to fit it in! Send me a picture if you make one. 🙂

Christmas Truck

Another fun design is to make a classic red truck with a Christmas tree in the bed.

Add some snow if you want! My falling snowflakes are 1 x 1 white round plates.
