Make some felt pumpkin coasters!

This is a cute pumpkin craft that you’ll enjoy using all during the fall.

Adults and kids will both enjoy this craft. These felt pumpkin coasters are also the perfect beginning sewing project for kids.

Felt Pumpkin Coasters - Pumpkin Craft

Our good friend and babysitter had the idea for this craft, and she helped Janie learn how to sew one on her own. So fun, and we’re so happy with how they turned out!

Make your felt pumpkin coasters for use at home, or give them as gifts. They would also be perfect to sell at a craft fair!

Supplies Needed for Making Felt Pumpkin Coasters:

  • Orange felt
  • Green felt
  • Orange embroidery floss
  • Paper and pencil
  • Scissors

Step 1: Cut out your pieces.

Draw a pumpkin shape on paper and cut it out, and then make a pattern for the stem also. We used a real mug as a reference as we made our pattern so that we would have the size we wanted. Cut two identical pumpkin shapes from felt and two identical stems. Then cut an oval that matches the size of the center of your pumpkin.

Step 2: Stitch the center oval to one of the pumpkin cut-outs.

Step 3: Stitch the two pumpkin cut-outs together. Place the stem pieces in between the layers so they are caught in the stitches.

If desired, you can sew the two stem pieces together before assembling the pumpkin.

And that’s all there is to it!

You can see Janie’s “beginner stitches,” but her pumpkin is just as cute. You really can’t go wrong with this project! Also, notice in the photo above that the adult-made pumpkin has the stem stitched together. That was a little too detailed for our 6 year old sewer, but it does improve the project.

This is one of the best projects I have seen for the "middle" kids. There are lots of projects for younger children, but the 9-11 are forgotten. Love it! Thanks.
