Felt Hearts Valentine Craft for Kids

Here’s a fun Valentine’s Day craft for kids! Use felt and googly eyes to make hearts with adorable faces on them. Then turn the hearts into either posable heart people with pipe cleaner legs or heart necklaces. Either craft is super fun! They make great gifts too.

We love crafting with felt! Sometimes cutting felt can be tricky for kids, so I really recommend getting a pair of fabric scissors. I recently picked up a small pair of fabric scissors that are great for both kids and for small details. Do keep in mind that fabric scissors are sharper that regular scissors! For young kids, it would probably be better to just have an adult do the cutting.

Felt Heart People

Supplies Needed:

Red, pink, and purple felt
White felt for the mouth
Pipe cleaners
Googly eyes
Hot glue
Fiber fill stuffing

To make the felt heart people, you’ll need to cut two identical hearts from felt.

Cut a mouth and cheeks from felt. Glue those on, and glue on some googly eyes.

Then bend and cut pipe cleaners to make the arms and legs. Glue the arms and legs to the felt heart.

Then, glue the front and back of the heart body together by putting a small line of hot glue around the edge of the heart. Leave the top open so that you can add a little stuffing.

Once you’ve inserted the stuffing, seal up the top edges of the heart with glue.

Once your heart people are assembled, you’ll need to adjust the feet a bit to get them to balance. But once you’ve found the balance point they stand up easily.

Heart Necklaces

After we made our heart people, we decided to try making heart necklaces. They turned out SO CUTE!

We made the felt stuffed hearts the same way as the heart people. Then instead of gluing in some arms and legs, we attached a piece of paracord between the layers.
