Use your LEGO bricks to do some science! We’ve been building all kinds of LEGO life science projects this year, and here’s a new one. Use your LEGO bricks to build super cool botany projects.
LEGO is great for building models. When students build a model of what they’re studying, it helps them understand the parts of that cell, animal, plant, or organ. It also helps them transfer that knowledge to their long term memory.
Which has been more helpful to you – looking over a diagram in a book and moving on? Or making something, labeling the parts, and explaining it all to someone else? When we take it to that next step of creating and explaining, we end up with a much more full understanding!

Project #1: Seedling
Build a simple little seedling!
Kids may even want to build the steps beginning with the seeds, and then progressing to the radicle emerging from the seed and becoming the root.

Project #2: Flower with Stem and Roots
Build a flower with a stem, leaves, and roots. It’s fun to show what’s underground and what’s above the ground!
It would also be fun to build a root vegetable, such as a carrot, potato, or beet.

Project #3 Diagram of a Flower
This one is my favorite! Make a flower complete with all the parts.
It was hard for me to label everything correctly. The anther and filament together make the stamen. Then the stigma, style, ovary, and ovule make up the pistil.

Project #4: Leaf with Veins
The pattern of veins on a leaf is called leaf venation, and it’s very interesting to study.
My leaf is supposed to be a maple leaf, with palmate venation.

Or, use your bricks to build a LEGO model of a plant or animal cell. This makes a great school project (and you don’t have to buy any supplies!)
