Here’s a fun LEGO game to play at a birthday party or as part of your next family game night! Use LEGO bricks to “draw” or “act out” words, similar to charades or the Pictionary game.
This game works great with your tub of random LEGO bricks. The goal of the game is to get your team members to correctly guess the word you are trying to build. There’s no need to use the “right” colors or make your LEGO creation look perfect. Just grab whatever bricks you have! As long as your team can identify what you’re building, you’re good!
How to Play LEGO Pictionary:
You’ll need a group of kids for this game. I would recommend having at least 6 so that you can have 3 on a team. Teams of 4-6 would be even better.
Teams trade off turns.
Start with team 1.
One player draws a card.
Set a timer for 3 – 5 minutes. The Pictionary game gives players 1 minute to draw their word, but drawing is MUCH faster than building with LEGO bricks. You don’t want the rounds to take forever, though. Players should just use whatever colors they find and build quickly.
You’ll want to make a decision about how much time your players need based on age and ability. You can always adjust after a few rounds.
The builder cannot talk to his or her team, make gestures, act out the word, or build the actual letters of the word out of LEGO bricks, haha.
The rest of the team shouts out guesses as to what the person is building. If they guess correctly before the time is up, their team gets a point.
Then game play transfers to the other team.
**The other team does not guess. Players only make guesses when someone from THEIR team is doing the building.
There are 60 word cards to print.
There’s nothing about the words that makes them specific to LEGO, so you can use these cards for the drawing version of Pictionary if you want!
I didn’t sort the cards by difficulty level because that will depend quite a bit on how big your LEGO collection is. The easier it is to find the right colors, the faster team members will be able to guess correctly.
What LEGO bricks do we need for this game?
Honestly, any tub of random pieces and taken-apart sets will work! You may want to grab one of the LEGO classic sets if you don’t have a lot of loose bricks for building. The LEGO Classic Large Creative Brick Box is a good choice. But just this one set is not a very big LEGO collection. If you truly have NO loose bricks, I would get a couple of Classic sets.
I would also recommend sorting out some wheels, windows, and eyes before playing the game.

This will work so well on many levels and instances. This will be added to my Lego Nights - Master Builders. And for a quick cover period with the kids. I might even use this for inclement weather days. Thanks.
