Almost 8 years ago, the Lord blessed us with Aidan – a bundle of energy and personality (as you can see by the large scab on his elbow…). He was an easy baby, but made up for it by being a strong-willed toddler. I remember that when I was pregnant with Gresham (and Aidan was turning 3), I was a little nervous because I loved Aidan so much – how could I possibly love another baby as much?

But then Gresham was born. And on that first sleepless night in the hospital, I looked into those wide, blue eyes and knew immediately that there would be plenty of love to go around.

Two and a half years after Gresham was born, the Lord blessed us with Owen. And he was beautiful. We were relaxed, handling the third newborn with the skill of experienced parents… until reflux hit. There were many long months when taking care of Owen was frustrating and exhausting. And during those months where I lacked control over my son’s discomfort, the Lord taught me a great deal about loving Owen because He chose Him for us. In His perfect will, He gave us the son He wanted us to have. Loving Owen began to be not about Owen being the ideal baby, but about serving the One who created him. (And in God’s grace, Owen has grown into a happy 2-year-old with no more reflux!)

We are excited to announce that the Lord is blessing us with Baby #4! Will it be a girl? Will this baby have reflux? Will this baby make it safely to full term? (After the experience of some friends, we know not to take that for granted!) We don’t know the answers to any of those questions, but we know that the Lord does, and we trust His goodness.

I’m not gonna lie… it’s a little intimidating to think about four young children! We’ll have more laundry, and more messes. More sandwiches to fix, more boo boos to kiss. But the Lord will give us more grace. And more laughter. And more love.

Definitely more love.

Baby Dees should arrive in early to mid January 2012!
