Make some adorable Christmas ornaments out of pipe cleaners!
We love pipe cleaners because they are cheap and colorful and kids love crafting with them.
We also love handmade Christmas ornaments, so be sure to check out our collection of Christmas Ornaments for Kids to Make.

Supplies Needed for Pipe Cleaner Christmas Ornaments:
- Pipe cleaners – especially in red, green, white, yellow, and brown.
- String for hanging the ornaments – we bought our red, white, and green cotton twine at Hobby Lobby, but here is a similar product on Amazon.
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun
- Beads
- Buttons
- Cardboard – from a cereal box or shipping box
Pipe Cleaner Christmas Tree Ornament:
Let’s start with a cute little Christmas tree!
Cut an 8 inch segment from a brown pipe cleaner. Fold it over in half and twist the ends together to make the trunk of the tree.
Cut green pipe cleaner segments and twist them around the trunk. You want the branches of the tree to get longer and longer as they go down, but here’s a great tip. Just trim the ends of the branches when you are finished twisting them to get the tree shape you want!
Then bend a yellow pipe cleaner into a star shape.
Make a loop of string for hanging the ornament.
Glue the star to the tree, and glue the string to the back of the tree. I used hot glue for this.
The tree looks adorable just like this, or you can decorate it by adding red pony beads. I didn’t glue the beads at all – just slid them on. Our pipe cleaners were very fluffy and held the beads on just fine. You can add a dot of glue if you’re concerned about them falling off.
Pipe Cleaner Stocking Ornament:
For this one, I cut a stocking shape from a cereal box and then wrapped pipe cleaners around it. So easy, and it looks great!
To switch colors, first make sure that your pipe cleaner ends on the back of your stocking. Then bend the end of the pipe cleaner so that you can tuck it under the wrappings. That will hold it in place with no glue needed.
Add some string for hanging. I threaded it through one of the wrappings.
The finished stocking is SO CUTE!
Pipe Cleaner Wreath Ornament:
Grab 3 white pipe cleaners and 3 green pipe cleaners. The white pipe cleaners will make the core of the wreath. Put them together, and begin wrapping a green pipe cleaner around all three. Leave some white exposed on the end.
When your green pipe cleaner runs out, start wrapping another one.
To finish the wreath, trim off the excess white pipe cleaners. However, do leave a little while sticking out on both ends. Bend your wreath into a circle and overlap the white parts. Then wrap green around the white to hold the ends together.
You’ll end up with a thicker part where you finished off your wreath. You can easily cover this up with a bow!
Glue on the bow, and add some string to hang the ornament with.
Pipe Cleaner Gingerbread House Ornament:
For this ornament, I also started with cardboard. Cut out a simple house shape.
Then wrap your house with brown pipe cleaners. You’ll need several! I think I used 6.
I twisted a red and white pipe cleaner together to make candy cane trim for the house.
Here’s my finished gingerbread house! I glued on trim, a door, and buttons. Then I made a tiny wreath because it just seemed like it needed something else. So fun!
Pipe Cleaner Candy Cane Ornament:
For this simple ornament, I used two white pipe cleaners and one red one. Twist the three pipe cleaners together. Then wrap a white one around the other two. Then wrap the red one, and so on.
When you get to the length you want, trim off the ends and bend your pipe cleaners into a candy cane shape.
You can also make a simpler candy cane by just twisting a red and a white pipe cleaner together.
