Now that Owen is 4, we are getting a little more academic with our preschool efforts!  He is interested in learning letters, and starting to understand that letters have sounds and make words.  I decided that it would be fun (and easy) to do a “letter of the week” this year.  Last week, we did letter C, and I was really happy with how it went.  Having the “C” theme made it easier for me to think of ways to keep Owen busy during school time, and it really helped him retain the letter shape and sound.

There are SO many simple things to do with preschoolers that go with the letter C!

First, Owen made a big letter C out of cookies which he cut out himself.  I drew circles on brown construction paper, and he cut them out, colored on chocolate chips, and glued them onto a large letter C that I drew for him on paper.

Owen and Jonathan did some pretend cooking in the backyard with water, spoons, and dishes.  Always a big hit!

Jonathan (19 months) just learned how to pour water from one container to another.  So cute.

We also did some counting.  I added in another “C” word by having Owen count coins.  (We made this egg carton counting tool a while back – you can find this egg carton activity and more number ideas here.)

I definitely recommend that you not number the egg carton spaces in order!  Make it random, and they have to think a little harder.
