Last year, I painted wooden eggs with Star Wars characters, and the boys loved them! In fact, I’m pretty sure we left them out on the dining table until May or June. This year, they talked me into adding characters from The Force Awakens, and I’m glad they did because they were so fun to paint! I did Rey, BB-8, Poe, Finn, Kylo Ren, and a First Order Stormtrooper.
I used wooden eggs from Hobby Lobby and acrylic paint. I found the eggs in the wood craft section, not the Easter section. They are 2.5 inches tall, and the bottom is flat so they stand up by themselves.
Rey and BB-8
BB-8 has four circles around his body, which are not perfectly drawn at all! Each of the gray designs inside the circles are slightly different, and I used our LEGO BB-8 for a pattern. I painted the egg solid white, and then drew all the details with a pencil before painting. The pencil marks erase easily off the paint if you make a mistake and need to change something.
I had a little trouble figuring out how to paint Rey’s hair. Here’s what I came up with:
Poe and Finn
For Poe and Finn, I drew the faces and details before painting anything. You can still see the pencil marks through the light colored flesh, but the other colors will require drawing some of the details again. I still think it’s worth it to plan out the whole thing before painting though.
Here’s a view of the side:
And the other side: (Poe’s helmet is not the same on each side)
And then the back of his outfit is just black stripes over the white part of his flight suit.
Kylo Ren and First Order Stormtrooper
I’m the least happy with the stormtrooper out of all the characters. His helmet is hard to paint! Kylo Ren is a coat of black paint, with metallic silver paint for the mask.

Those are awesome! What a great idea! I'll have to see if I can find some wooden eggs since I'm currently living in Japan. It would be such a fun project.
